ORGANIZATION: BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF ST LUCIE COUNTY INC

VOLUNTEER OPENINGS
Program Volunteers:

Arts & Crafts

o Help Club members develop their creativity and expand their appreciation of art.

o Assist with "TNT Drama Matters Afterschool", a drama education program, was developed in collaboration with Turner Network Television.

Music

o Assist with "Music Makers" activities that inspire young people to produce music and create their life’s soundtrack.

Sports

o Assist with "Triple Play" a comprehensive health and wellness program that strives to improve the overall health of members, ages K-18, by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.

Office Assistant

o Provide clerical support to Directors/Department Heads - duties could include typing, making copies, filing, answering/making phone calls, and mailings.

Mentor/Tutor

o Participate in "Power Hour" helping Club members ages K-18 achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring and high-yield learning activities and encouraging members to become self-directed learners.

o Assist with "Summer Brain Gain" academic exercises designed to combat Summer Slide, the tendency among young people to lose some of the gains they made during the school year.

o Assist with presenting "Money Matters" which promotes financial responsibility and independence among Club members of all ages by building their basic money management skills.

Speakers of Other Languages

o Assist in establishing effective written and oral communication among limited and non-English speaking Club members and/or parents.

ADVISORY COUNCIL VOLUNTEERS:

Board Member (see separate application process)

o Board member engagement is critical to organizational strength. Board Members are engaged in the work of the organization and are viewed as community leaders. Board Members demonstrate their commitment with financial support as well as their support of resource development goals.

Business Partner

o Provide expertise and resources that will enhance the career-based educational perspective by participating in advisory committee functions, opportunities for career-related internships, and/or special events and programs-assist student in skill development.

PARENT GROUP VOLUNTEERS

Chaperone - Provide additional support and supervision of Club members while on field trips, sporting events, etc.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION VOLUNTEERS

o Eligible to join The Alumni & Friends Club. It represents a community of former Club kids, staff members, advocates and supporters who share a common bond and affinity for advancing the Boys & Girls Club mission.

o Registering as an Alumni & Friends member, you stay connected to the Club! Membership in our Local Alumni Club is always FREE. Sign up below or visit BGAlum.org to sign up for the National Alumni Club (free for 1st year.)

o Opportunities to volunteer in various volunteer positions.

OTHER VOLUNTEERS

Special Events/Activities Volunteer

o Assist with Teen Summit, an annual BGCSLC culminating event. The Summit provides teens with motivational speakers, information sessions and workshops on subjects relating to qualifying for and keeping a job and preparing for higher education.

QUALIFICATIONS BACKGROUND SCREENING
  • Must submit to and pass Level 1 background screening.
  • If volunteering 10 hours or more a month, must submit to and pass Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Children & Families.

For over 24 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County has served more than 8,000 youth annually with our afterschool, summer and outreach programming such as truancy.
