Care for Friends provides crucial services to individuals experiencing homelessness, food- and housing-insecurity. We would not be able to do this amazing work without dedicated and willing volunteers like you!
We are looking for more volunteers for CFF’s Saturday Supporter Initiative.
For this initiative, we are looking for volunteers to complete tasks outside of the kitchen. The Supporters initiative is centralized around maintaining an atmosphere of dignity and respect for our guests by helping with all the smaller but essential jobs that need doing.
Some of the projects you may help with include:
- Neighborhood walks (specified routes to check for our guests and remind them of hot meal)
- Creating silverware rolls for hot meal distribution.
- Organizing toiletries, cleaning and program supplies in our Paper Pantry
- Updating Team Leads and Volunteer Coordinator on inventory of items
- Taking guest 'orders' for personal items (toiletries, clothing), retrieving and delivering to the guests
-Monitoring and playing games with guests at our Activity Center
- Setting up a craft activity for the guests that connects with a monthly theme (i.e. February, valentines day cards)
When needed:
- Serving food to the guests, if needed (following COVID-safe guidelines)
- Running the Market Table (canned goods/ food pantry) items; passing them out to guests
- Helping with set up and break down of the serving and market tables
- Help Team Lead/Kitchen team with clean up and scrub down

Mission Statement
Care for Friends provides easy access to community, food and overall wellness for Chicago’s most vulnerable and under-served people, in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. Through its programs, Care for Friends successfully connects people with community resources to enable them to achieve a better quality of life.
Description
Our flagship program is "Food for Friends" - where we create a safe space for anyone requiring a meal to gather in community for a no-cost hot lunch served in sit-down, family style with dignity and respect.
Other services are available during this gathering time, including haircuts, a health clinic, clothes closet, and toiletries distribution. Additionally, representatives from our various partner organizations begin to make connections with our guests - establishing trusting relationships that will ultimately allow our guests to connect with the services they need to achieve a better quality of life.
