Child & Family Services is looking for five AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve their community for a one-year term beginning January 21, 2020.
Child & Family Services of Northwestern Michigan (CFS) is recruiting full-time (40 hours per week) AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve their community during a one-year term in its Traverse City or Harbor Springs office. During your term of service, you will help strengthen rural communities in northern Michigan and lift families out of poverty by increasing the capacity of CFS to provide programming to underserved clients and engage community partners.
Qualifications: Must commit to serve an entire year of service (January 21, 2020 to January 19, 2021) averaging 40 hours per week, pass all required background and reference checks, and complete any other AmeriCorps or CFS eligibility requirements. High School diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred. Must be at least 18 years old and be a US citizen or legal permanent resident. VISTAs may be current students or have outside employment, understanding that neither school nor work will conflict with the member’s service hours.
Must be dependable, work well as part of a team, have a positive attitude, and be willing to learn new skills. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, have reliable transportation, be proficient with computers including Microsoft Office products, and be available to work a flexible schedule that may require some nights and weekends. A general knowledge of the community to be served is preferred, but not required.
Benefits and Terms of Service: CFS’ AmeriCorps VISTAs must commit to serve an average of 40 hours per week over a one-year term beginning January 21, 2020. VISTAs receive a bi-weekly living stipend of $479.08, for a total stipend of $12,491 over one-year. Upon successful completion of the term of service, members may be eligible for a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,095 that can be used towards post-secondary education expenses, or a cash stipend of $1,800. VISTAs may be eligible for student loan relief programs during their term of service. VISTAs receive basic health insurance coverage. Childcare assistance and other benefits may be available to eligible candidates. VISTA members receive professional development and training necessary to be successful in their service.

Child & Family Services has provided services to children, youth, adults, and their families for over 75 years. Over the years, we have responded to our community's changing needs through progranmming that includes counseling, treatement and support for children who have been sexually abused, supervised visitation and exchange, crisis services, street outreach and intensive family preservation, among others.
In January 2014, Child and Family Services merged with Third Level Crisis and Intervention Center, bringing all programs under one roof to create greater efficiency and innovation in how we deliver services to our clients.
