The Point-in-Time (PIT) count is a survey that is taken by volunteer interviewer teams across Polk County and is a count of sheltered and un-sheltered homeless persons on a single day/afternoon in January.
- Volunteer Interviewers will attend an orientation prior to the event day, so they know what to expect. Dates and locations listed at close of this description.
- Interviewers will be provided a clip board to interview and collect some basic demographic information from each participating persons surveyed.
- Each count is planned, coordinated, and carried out locally throughout Polk.
- Each Interview Team is lead by an experienced social worker who will accompany community volunteers as a team to conduct interviews.
- Teams will canvass assigned areas of Polk County, in search of unsheltered homeless citizens.
- Those teams are responsible for interviewing any homeless persons within their assigned specific geographic area in the county.
- One shift of Interviewers will assist in the morning, and one shift will assist in the afternoon.
- Once your team has counted everyone in your assigned areas, you will turn in your survey forms to your team leader. Done!
- Attention College Students Majoring in: Communications/Journalism; Social Services / Human Services; Statistics, Human Resources; Religion / Ministry /Missions - - this will be an incredible experience in preparation for your career and in enhancing your resume!
- Attention Professors, Pastors, Church Mission Leaders, Social Workers, Community Leaders and other adults interested in assisting and learning - this experience is life-changing as well as helpful in helping to obtain funding to assist folks in obtaining affordable housing.

- Thursday, December 19th, 2pm - 4pm (Indigent Healthcare Building, 2135 Marshall Edwards Drive, 1st floor, Multi-Media Conference Room, Bartow)
- All guests must sign in with reception and get a visitor badge.
- Saturday, January 11th, 9am - 11am (My Office & More, 122 Main Street, 1st Floor, Lakeland)
- Thursday, January 16th, 9am - 11am and 2pm - 4pm (United Way, 5605 US-98, Pine Room, Lakeland/Highland City)
