Can running/walking with those experiencing homelessness really change your life?
Come find out.
Our team in the South End has a lot of Spanish speaking members and not many volunteers who can communicate with them. In order to ensure that all of our members are included in our program we are looking for volunteers who can speak both Spanish and English and fee comfortable conversing with members in both / translating. Being fluent is not required, but a solid base is needed.
Back on My Feet recruits individuals (members) at homeless and residential facilities across the country and begins with a member’s commitment to run three days a week in the early morning. After 30 days in the program, members with 90% attendance earn the opportunity to move into the second phase of the program called Next Steps, which provides education, employment and housing opportunities.
Our members don’t accomplish this alone. They do it alongside the support of volunteer runners/walkers like you.
Volunteers come out early - set your alarms! - to one of our locations and run between one and five miles with our members. All abilities are welcome- runners, joggers and walkers too. We gather every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, but the desired volunteer commitment is once a week. Fall in love with the team (which, we think you will), and you can join us as often as you’d like.
Our Boston chapter is seeking SPANISH SPEAKING morning run/walk volunteers for our South End team at 5:45 am. Volunteer slots for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are available. You can volunteer for 1, 2, or 3 mornings a week. We welcome all levels of athletic ability. We participate in local road races, social events, and wellness workshops. Be a part of a unique organization, you won't regret it!!
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
About Back on My Feet Boston
361 Newbury St, Boston, MA 02115, US
Back on My Feet is a non-profit organization that fosters independence, self-sufficiency, and long term stability in the homeless and underserved population through community-based wellness as a means to build confidence, restore dignity and promote self-advocacy.
Back on My Feet (BoMF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering stability, self-sufficiency and independence in the homeless and at-risk population by utilizing a proven, disruptive technology: a carefully designed and closely monitored team running & walking program. Back on My Feet strikes many as a unique solution to a pervasive social issue. We foster stability within the homeless and at-risk populations by first engaging our Members in running as a means to improve health, build confidence, strength and self-esteem. We do not provide food or shelter, but we do provide a community that embraces respect, discipline and teamwork. Through running and walking, we create a common link between our Members, our volunteers and the communities that we serve. For Back on My Feet, running is the means by which our Members discover that they are capable of accomplishing anything with hard work and dedication. Through our programs, our Members are smoking less, making better nutrition choices, getting regular exercise, enrolling in school and job training courses at greater rates and moving from emergency housing to independent living. They credit Back on My Feet with giving them a renewed sense of belief in themselves and the courage to take the steps to move their lives forward. Using the power of community and shared commitment, Back on My Feet measures success not by miles logged, but by the achievements of our Members on their road home.
