About Project Smile

Mission Statement
Project Smile's mission is to provide items of comfort to police and fire departments for officers, fire fighters and paramedics to give to children involved in traumatic situations. We donate stuffed animals, coloring/activity books and crayons. Since our founding in October 2003, we have provided over 14, 600 stuffed animals and work with 97 police and fire departments in New England.
Description
Project Smile is focused on giving emergency responders the tools that they need to help ease the fear and bring comfort to children involved in traumatic situations. Many of the children who receive our stuffed animals and coloring books were involved in car accidents, witnessed domestic violence, are victims of abuse or other crimes or sick/injured.
Stuffed animals and coloring books are also frequently used when police have to interview child crime victims. Children are frequently too frightened to speak with police officers and are extremely intimidated. The process of interviewing children who have been victims of sexual assault or witnessed serious crimes can be extremely difficult as children are often very reluctant to speak. It is in situations like these that it is absolutely vital for police officers to provide children with items that kids can identify with and that offers them a source of comfort and most importantly, helps open lines of communication.
