Volunteers will be a part of Quinta Mazatlan's first ever Illumina Fest, helping to direct attendees and performers, run children's activities, help families create Luminaria bags for placement along the trails and assist performers with setup.

Volunteers will be rewarded with up to 10 community service hours for participation and assisting with event promotion by sharing photos with coordinators.

About Quinta Mazatlan

Location:

600 Sunset Drive, McAllen, TX 78503, US

Mission Statement

Quinta Mazatlan's volunteer department is recruiting students and professionals as young as 16 years old to participate in public community events. Our annual events include the Monarch Festival in March, Fiesta de Palmas in September and Illumina Fest in December; each event and more need volunteers each year who are dependable and willing to engage with our local Rio Grande Valley community for the good of environmental education. Each of our opportunities involves spreading messages about how crucial it is to respect the environment through interactive academic experiences. We aim to unify and educate the Rio Grande Valley on the importance of protecting our region's native species.

Description

Quinta Mazatlan is an urban sanctuary working to enrich people's lives by sharing knowledge about birds, plants, and environmental stewardship in South Texas. Quinta Mazatlan and its World Birding Center partners promote birding and conservation of Valley habitat, especially as it benefits numerous avian residents and neo-tropical migrants. The Valley currently has 1.2 million people on the American side (and at least 2.1 million on the Mexican side), and represents the fastest growing metropolitan area in the country. The protection of woodlands and green space is an important goal for the City of McAllen and its neighbors.
