Reception and Placement Volunteering:
The main support needed within the new refugee arrivals program pertains to public transportation education to several locations over a span of time, including the agency office, social services, grocery store(s), and the health clinic, to name some of the most important destinations. Volunteers will also be able to educate clients regarding how to recharge their prepaid phones, which includes going to the store and purchasing the refill card, then activating it with the client.
Employment Services Volunteering:
These volunteers will be responsible for assisting the job developers in preparing clients to obtain gainful employment and reach self-sufficiency. Volunteers on this team will be trained to assist with tasks such as obtaining a State ID, opening a bank account, bill pay education, interview practice, and bus training so as to assist clients in learning how to get from their residence to the job site.
Public Assistance Volunteering:
Volunteers could do a great service to the refugee clients we resettle by assisting them with food stamps and Medicaid applications/re-certifications, change in benefits forms, and section 8 housing applications. Education in order to accomplish such tasks will be provided to the volunteer.School Impact Program Volunteering:
These volunteers will be responsible for assisting students within an educational environment. Activities include general homework help as well as more in-depth tutoring services. This can include one-on-one tutoring within the student’s home at a time agreed upon by both the student and the tutor. General tutoring assistance occurs at one of the school impact locations between the times of 2:30 and 6:00p Monday through Thursday. Volunteers are asked to be available for at least one hour during those times.
