ORGANIZATION: The American Red Cross Greater Pennsylvania

Purpose:

Assist the Red Cross in delivery her mission by coordinating publicity information concerning disaster responses to the public via email and social media.

Reports To: Regional Director of Marketing and Communications

Responsibilities:

  • To notify the media and staff of all disaster responses that occur in our 28-county service area in a timely manner.
  • Under normal conditions, work is done from home via a cellphone and computer.
  • During larger emergency situations, members of this group could be asked to assist in other communications capacities.
  • Background in communications, media relations, and a strong comfort level with using computers and social media is required.

Time Commitment: 24/7 on call shift (either Monday to Friday or Friday to Monday) every four to six weeks.

Qualifications:

  • Strong computer and social media skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to translate industry-specific information into easy to understand narratives.
  • Willingness to be available 24/7 when on call.

Relationships: Public Affairs Volunteer Team, Red Cross Communications Department, Local Media Outlets, Social Site Followers
