Donor Management & Social Media
Friends of League City Animal Shelter aka League City Pets Alive
Non profit organizations run on the generosity of their community and donors. Giving a heartfelt "Thank You" for each donation, no matter the size, motivates people to give again. Tracking your donors so you know if the donor has given before is important. We use a program called Little Green Light to track our donors. So each donation is promptly logged and acknowledged. Some thank you's are done in a written note or formal letter, while others are done via email if we have their email. Little Green Light offers lots of skill development training if this of interest to you.
Any opportunity to communicate gratitude to a person or company results in good will and future giving. Instead of "asking people for money" we get people emotionally invested and excited about our mission and accomplishments. Once involved, they ask us how can I help. We never tell sad stories. We want people feeling optimistic and happy to help move our mission forward.
Social Media events like Giving Tuesday, Amazon Smile, Kroger Community Rewards, Facebook Fundraising and others are another source of attracting donations. So the person needs to be tech savvy.
Tech skills are essential since we must pull our PayPal and PayPal Giving transaction report to acknowledge those donations.
We are about to finish our new Animal Shelter. We have been receiving donations where the donor gets a commemorative brick paver, bench or room sponsorship. These donors need to be given their options for the inscription they want and then these items need to be ordered. The company doing the engraving will create a website for us where can order for themselves. They pay us and the company creates the item and ships it to the shelter.
If you are into research there are tons of opportunities in fund development. There's no end to the possibilities
About Friends of League City Animal Shelter aka League City Pets Alive

Friends of League City Animal Shelter aka League City Pets Alive is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Our purpose is to stop the senseless killing of companion animals and maintain the "NO KILL" status of League City. We acquire donations or raise funds for the purchase of services and supplies not covered by the City budget. Funds are used for veterinary care, medical supplies. food, related animal supplies, shelter supplies, and volunteer expenses.
In 2013 we set a goal to become NO KILL. We achieved that goal completely in 2017. A shelter is considered "no kill" at 90% live release rate. We didn't stop there. Our volunteers and staff work tirelessly and we achieved 96% live release in 2018 . Committing to be "no kill" means providing treatment for animals that most shelters would kill rather than spend funds to treat. Our community has a generous giving spirit and we are blessed with donations that allow us to save animals with curable diseases or conditions. In 2017 we hired "Dogs Playing for Life" , professional trainers to train our volunteers. Play groups require 50 specially trained volunteers. In 2018 we began treating the most at "risk dogs with heart worms". We have cats showing and being adopted at FIVE area pet supply stores. This increased our live release of cats from 92% in 2018 to 97% for the first quarter of 2019. The Cat Condo program requires 70 volunteer shifts per week.
"No Kill" isn't about warehousing animals. We currently have more animals in foster care than in the shelter. This requires more than 20,000 foster care volunteer hours a year.
We have a new animal shelter under construction which will give us more space to engage the community at the shelter and develop more life saving programs.
