Hospice by the Bay

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Hospice by the Bay, but due to the current COVID pandemic, our 2020 volunteer trainings have been cancelled until further notice. Presently, our current volunteers are not making in-person visits to patient/families, and it is uncertain as to when this will change. Meanwhile, we still invite you to inquire about volunteering or apply as a volunteer on our agency website. HBTB.org/volunteers. We will contact you directly.

**Reiki Masters who speak fluent Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Tagalog are especially needed!**

Are you a good listener? Are you caring, helpful and adaptable? Do you love the diverse culture of San Mateo County?

Bring peace and comfort into the lives of those with terminal illness. Come join our Complementary Care team of volunteers. Utilize your therapeutic skills to assist with symptom management and improve the quality of life for hospice patients. We are looking for certified practitioners to provide energy work sessions. Reiki Master required or certification in Healing Touch.

As a Complementary Care Volunteer for Hospice by the Bay, you’ll be making a significant difference for someone facing end-of-life challenges. Your meaningful contributions will support the Hospice Care Team by:

> Sharing your healing skills with those in need
Assisting in symptom management
> Improving quality of life
> Listening to life stories
> Playing their favorite music

In return you’ll learn all about hospice care and receive comprehensive training to prepare you for working with our patients and their families.

"I have been a hospice volunteer for HBTB in San Francisco for three years. It has been a very rewarding and heartfelt experience and enriched my life greatly. All of the people that work for this organization are dedicated, caring people, which makes this organization such a valuable part of the Bay Area community."

We hope you’ll consider joining our caring team! We’re especially looking for bi-lingual and bi-cultural volunteers who know what it’s like to live in San Francisco and the Peninsula. Hospice by the Bay was founded by dedicated volunteers more than 40 years ago and they’re still at the heart of what we do.

To apply, visit www.hbtb.org/volunteers/ or call (415) 626.5900 for more information.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to be the premiere provider of palliative and hospice services for patients and their caregivers needing care and support during the final stages of life. We are dedicated to promoting wellness at the end of life, as well as preventing and treating distressing symptoms or conditions that might otherwise threaten the quality of life for our patients and families. We compassionately provide quality services, sensitive to the values, interests, capabilities and needs of those we serve, in a cost-effective manner and in a variety of settings.

What makes Hospice by the Bay unique! It was founded by volunteers as a non-profit, end-of-life healthcare provider in 1975. It was created by the community to serve the community. As the second oldest hospice in the U.S., Hospice By The Bay has the depth of experience to understand the medical, practical, emotional and spiritual care patients and their families need during the end of life experience. From its grassroots foundation by community volunteers (then named Hospice of Marin), Hospice By The Bay remains at the vanguard of the hospice industry and a premier, regional provider of end-of-life care.
