Having a passion for music is all you need to be able to teach kids how exciting music really is. You'll receive training to show kids how sound works in a presentation-style format using orchestral instruments, video demonstrations, and the ability to play live instruments!

You'll pick up our music van and drive to an elementary school in our county to give the Notes in Class presentation, then drop the music van back at the SLO Symphony office.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the San Luis Obispo Symphony is to support an outstanding community orchestra, to foster symphonic and chamber music education, and to contribute to the cultural and economic vitality of the central coast community.

Description

For 60 years, the San Luis Obispo Symphony has enriched the Central Coast community with the joy of music. SLO Symphony's Music Education programs have given children the opportunity to learn to love music and work with their ensembles to create harmony. The orchestra has brought world-class POPS and classical concerts to music lovers from all walks of life.

Since SLO Symphony was incorporated in 1961 it has grown significantly to become a leading arts institution in the community with 70 orchestra members. SLO Symphony produces 9 concerts and events per year in San Luis Obispo County and educates local youth through a Youth Symphony program with six ensembles and music education programs such as a Music Van that visits local schools and a Musical Petting Zoo that attends community events. The Symphony music education programs have touched more than 16,000 youth per year in its 60-year tenure.
