Volunteers work with an assigned family to monitor and supervise weekly visits. During the 1.5 to 2.5 hour scheduled visiting time, the volunteer greets the non custodial parent while they pay for any visits, set up room or food they brought for 15 minutes. The volunteer then greets the custodial parent and children and guides the children to the room of the non custodial parent. Volunteer then monitors their interaction for the next hour or two, suggests appropriate activities when necessary, and completes an observation form. After the visit the volunteer will guide the kids to custodial parents while non custodial parent stays in room. Non custodial parent will remain in room for 15 minutes and then is allowed to leave. Trained staff members are always available to support the volunteers. An orientation session of 1 ½ to two hours is provided to all new volunteers. Orientation continues with an opportunity to observe and co-supervise other visitations. Volunteers are then matched with a family based upon time preferences. Volunteers are asked for a six month minimum commitment, so that they and the children and families get to know each other. Substitutes are available in case of illness or vacations.
