Make a difference every day! Crisis Line volunteers provide active listening, emotional support and community resources to people who are in crisis, depressed, suicidal, grieving, homeless, mentally ill, or looking for resources. Volunteers must be 21 or older.
Interested? Attend an informational orientation - we offer once per month. Sign up at https://www.crisis-center.org/volunteer/
Training provided - A 60-hour training program teaches new volunteers everything they need to know to be effective on the 24-hour crisis and information and referral lines. After classroom training and one-on-one mentoring, volunteers typically work one 4-hour shift once a week. Additional in-service training is required.

Please note: we are unable to accept court appointed community service volunteers for this role.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Contra Costa Crisis Center is to keep people alive and safe, help them through crises, and provide or connect them with culturally relevant resources in the community.

Description

Every day our professional staff and award-winning volunteers talk with people who are abused, depressed, grieving, suicidal, homeless, and mentally ill. We also provide ongoing grief counseling, support groups, and 211 resource referral and information. Our programs have expanded to include Corporate Caring Volunteer Week for business teams to give back in the community, and the Share the Spirit holiday grant making project.

We are committed to making our services accessible and relevant to people of diverse cultures and backgrounds. We hire diverse staff, recruit and train a diverse pool of volunteers, and ensure that most outreach materials are bilingual. Many members of our staff speak Spanish, and we subscribe to a teleinterpreter service in order to assist callers in additional languages. Staff have written and published articles on the value of cultural competency.
