What are you interested in? We will find a place for you to shine! Shifts vary by assignment type and current needs but we will always honor your schedule!
Volunteer Opportunities fall into three categories
1. Visitor Services
2. Education
3. Board of Directors
Visitor Services gives you the opportunity to interact with the public, welcome them to our wonderful slice of heaven and run the museum shop.
Assisting the Education Department allows those interested in working with learners of all ages and abilities by solo teaching, assistant teaching, preparing for programs, or traveling with the Curator of Education to outreaches. If none of that is of interest you can take the track of helping teach through discovery carts or providing tours of the museum exhibit hall. More comfortable on a computer or in the library? We always need help with research or on our Social Media platforms.
The Board of Directors always needs help with their fundraising programs, exhibits advisory committee, woodworking and handyman projects, as well as gardening. If you are interested in assisting on Board Committees this is the place to do it as well!

Mission Statement
The mission of the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport is to collect, preserve, and interpret material culture pertinent to the maritime history of the Lower Cape Fear region for all people.
Description
NCMMS interprets maritime history and culture from Native American times to the present day US Coast Guard. Our desire is to represent all people in the Cape Fear Region of North Carolina from Brunswick, New Hanover, Pender, Columbus, and Robeson Counties, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sex, or ability. Some programs at NCMMS are geared for Little Mariners (4-6 year olds), First Mates (7-12 year olds), Quartermasters (13-18 year olds) or Salty Dogs (18+). Many programs are free while some have a small fee to cover supply costs.
