ECHO’s Return of the Butterflies is coming in February 2020! ECHO is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join us as Flight Attendants in our live butterfly exhibit. The Volunteer Position Description is below. View more information here: https://www.echovermont.org/join-support/volunteer/ Apply online here: ECHO Volunteer Application. Volunteer Position Description: Butterfly Volunteers (Flight Attendants) will have the opportunity to engage the public on all things butterfly by sharing facts and helping guests identify unique tropical butterfly species in our pavilion. Flight attendants will support a great guest experience by greeting and guiding guests before they enter the exhibit, engaging with guests (and butterflies) inside the exhibit, monitoring guest-butterfly interactions, and ensuring that guests exit the exhibit with no butterfly hitchhikers. All volunteers will be trained to understand the butterfly exhibit space, basic species information, and how to work with guests and butterflies to ensure a positive experience for all. In addition to guest experience training, flight attendants will also be trained in USDA protocols to keep guests and butterflies safe and secure. Please note that our pavilion houses tropical butterflies and thus is a tropical climate. The pavilion temperature is consistently around 80 degrees with 80% humidity. Time Commitment: One 2-hour shift per week. Volunteers must be available for one training in exhibit interpretation (45 minutes) and one training in USDA regulations for live butterflies (1 hour 45 minutes) in addition to a volunteer orientation. Qualifications: No experience needed, but interest in butterflies and ECHO’s mission a plus!

  • Volunteers must enjoy working with visitors of all ages, be excited about learning, and have an interest in sharing their enthusiasm for scientific discovery and the wonder of nature.
  • Ability to guide guests into, inside, and exiting butterfly house while adhering to established protocols.
  • Must also enjoy working with a close team of volunteers, youth, and staff, and have an outgoing and cheerful demeanor.
  • Experience in working with the public a plus.
  • Comfortable working in a warm, humid environment (80 degrees with 80% humidity).
