Overnight Monitor Position Description: The Overnight Monitor assists ESNKY staff to keep the Extreme Weather Shelter environment safe and welcoming

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set-up Activity Center for overnight shelter - prepare each sleeping station with a mat, blanket, and chair. Prepare a cooler of water. Set out snacks if available.
  • Assist Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky staff with welcoming guests
  • Keep Activity Center secure over night by responding to guests as needed
  • Keep bathrooms and sleeping area clean and clear of debris
  • Qualifications and Skills:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    • Must have capacity to travel to Florence Christian Church in extreme weather conditions
    • Must have capacity to remain awake all night to monitor environment
    • Must be welcoming and gracious to overnight guests

    Work Environment:

    Time is spent in the Activity Center. The temperature will be kept at 65° overnight. Chairs and a table will be provided for staff and volunteers.

Description

In response to impending severe weather forecasts, Florence Christian Church will provide emergency overnight shelter in the Activity Center (AC). Overnight guests will be welcomed into the AC through the north door and ESNKY staff will perform intake duties. The AC will be set-up to host 20 guests with mats, blankets, washcloths, hand towels, toothbrush and toothpaste, enough for one each, and a large cooler of water for all guests. Within an hour of admittance, the lights will be turned out and guests will be expected to remain at their bed unless going to the restroom. In the morning, guests will exit the building in time for the facility to be cleaned for use by the childcare program.
