ORGANIZATION: Food Finders, Inc

Volunteer drivers are needed to pick up and deliver donated food to partnering agencies throughout the Valley. Volunteers will be assigned a set weekly route, 1-2 days a week. Routes take about an hour to complete. Volunteer orientation and t-shirt provided. As a volunteer you will provide hope and dignity to those struggling to feed themselves and their families. Description

Our Food Rescue Program began in 1989 in response to the disparity between the amount of wholesome food going to waste and the amount of people facing food insecurity. Food Finders initially rescued a few thousand pounds of food per year with only the Founder and several volunteers running the program. Today, we have 17 full-time staff and 6 interns, and we have an army of more than 300 volunteers. We serve more than 400 recipient agency partners and engage more than 700 food donors. Our focus is on perishable and prepared food. This food is immediately delivered to our partner agencies, not warehoused, providing an average of 30,000-40,000 meals a day, 365 days a year. So far in 2023, we have rescued over 13.7 million pounds of food, and we have the possibility to reach a Food Finders all-time high of 16 million pounds of food by the end of the year.

In September, our Food 4 Kids program will start again with the Long Beach Unified School District. We will provide 1,844 meals per month to over 40 schools to ensure that students + their families who are struggling with food insecurity have meals to eat on the weekends.
