Weekly Success Meals: We are in search of a dedicated, weekly volunteer who is excited by the idea of interacting weekly with our Team Members currently experiencing homelessness. We have Weekly Success Meetings every Tuesday with our Team Members where we discuss our goals and give community support, as well as a hot meal. We are looking for an individual with their own transportation who can pick up the weekly meal from Eat Club in Fremont, every other Monday for our Team Members (unhoused participants) at the Downtown Streets Team community!

Mission Statement

Downtown Streets Team is ending homelessness by restoring the dignity and rebuilding the lives of unhoused men and women. Dignity Above All: We are a community that becomes greater than the sum of our parts by building a social movement that's dignified, authentic and celebratory. Inclusive Collaboration: Staff, Volunteers, and Partners work on the same Team to support Team Members achieving their own success because we care about everyone finding their place at DST. Personal + Professional Grit: We stay committed to action through uncertainty; we constantly incorporate improvements and innovations; and we prioritize taking care of ourselves and each other. Whatever It Takes: We are not afraid of working whenever and wherever Team Members need us. People First: We believe in the power of our shared humanity, determination, and resilience even in the face of insurmountable adversity.

Description

Our approach is unique in that we not only challenge Team Members to take an active role in their own recovery but we also empower them to create long-term solutions for their peers. By having the opportunity to tell their stories at schools, churches, social organizations, and business associations, our Team Members are changing perceptions about homelessness in their communities.

Furthermore, our program has the inherent public benefit of a cleaner community as our Team Members engage in beautifications projects such as street cleaning and creek restoration through our Award-Winning Work-First Model. As one of our Team Members has said, what we’re doing is a "win-win-win" scenario: the Team Member wins, the environment wins and the community wins - it doesn’t get much better than that.
