About FareStart:

FareStart provides a community that transforms lives by empowering adults and young people experiencing poverty and homelessness to achieve self-sufficiency through life skills, job training and employment in the foodservice industry.

Overview:

This position will interview and photograph FareStart students, partners, staff and other constituents and to write stories that highlight FareStart’s mission and impact in the community. Stories will be used on the FareStart blog, e-newsletter, social media and other channels as appropriate.

Reports To:

Nathan Jackson, Communications Manager

Qualifications:

Excellent written and interpersonal communications

Familiarity with AP-style writing

Strong attention to detail including spelling and grammar

Understanding of FareStart’s mission

Empathy and ability to work with people who may be dealing with trauma and to Listen to their stories without judgment.

Workload:

One or two interviews per month. Interviews should be in person whenever possible and typically take between 30 and 60 minutes. Stories will be sent to the Communications Manager for editing and approval.
