The West End Museum

The West End Museum is seeking a Higher Education & Community Partnerships Coordinator to work with the Program Director to develop and maintain relationships with local institutions of higher learning and to plan/execute programs with these institutions.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing meaningful relationships between local institutions and the museum
  • Coordinating, planning, and creating museum programs in conjunction with student organizations, school departments (e.g. history, architecture, urban planning), and local institutions
  • Sharing programming information with student groups and institutions to encourage student and community attendance
  • Coordinating with the Program Director, marketing, and operations to ensure that events are executed and marketed properly
  • Attend and/or staff programming events (when possible)
  • Other miscellaneous related duties as required

Skills Needed

  • Able to work independently, as well as within a team
  • Strong organizational skills and interpersonal skills
  • Confident phone, email, and in-person communication
  • Strong oral and written proficiency in English
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Interest and/or prior experience in programs and public outreach
  • An interest in the history and culture of of Boston’s West End is a plus

The West End Museum is dedicated to telling the story of Boston’s West End neighborhood. The Museum provides a space for past and present residents and the community; educates the public in history and urbanization; and preserves its material history and culture. The Museum seeks to challenge citizens to take an active role in shaping their communities.

Description

About the West End Museum:

We are a Boston neighborhood museum seeking volunteers interested in the history and culture of the City of Boston, its immigrant era, and urban renewal. The Museum is a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization dedicated to the collection, preservation, and interpretation of the history and culture of the West End of Boston.

You can expect to find a casual workplace of friendly Volunteers and Staff who are welcoming and eager to engage with the public. A previous knowledge of the neighborhood is not required, but an appreciation of its historical significance is helpful.

The Museum is conveniently located close to the MBTA Science Park/West End Station and North Station. Bowdoin Station is about a 10-minute walk.
