Internship Description:

We are looking for a paid intern to assist our GSK Summer Program by teaching hands-on learning in schools. This position would act as support to the lead instructor by providing classroom management, extra supervision, and occasionally leading lessons with students’ grades 2-6. Most weeks will be Monday through Friday mornings and afternoons.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist GSK educator by loading the outreach vehicle, setting up the classroom, and keeping track of supplies and materials
  • Lead small groups of students in hands-on science activities
  • Help modify lessons if needed, to adapt to students’ abilities
  • Manage students during class time, supervising behavior, and keeping them on task
  • Assist GSK educator by collecting behavior contracts from the schools

Qualifications:

  • Intern candidates are requested to be a Junior or Senior enrolled in an accredited college. Interns are encouraged to obtain college credit for their internship.
  • Intern candidates are passionate about science and have a love for sharing through education.
  • Intern candidates are responsible, mature in attitude, and quick to solve problems in an ever changing environment.
  • Intern candidates have worked with children in formal or informal education settings for at least 6 months or more.

Hour/Time Commitment:

All interns are asked to record their service hours through our online Volunteer Information Center (VIC).

30 hours a week over 8 weeks

Compensation: Yes, there is compensation!
