Can you facilitate and teach in a group environment and create a safe community for low income women and women in homelessness?

The Blossom Project and Downtown Streets Team are partnering to give women experiencing homelessness the emotional and physical tools necessary to empower their lives.

Blossom and DST is looking for 2 group instructors to teach and facilitate a small group of women (8-12) that are ranging from 40-75 years of age, every week on Fridays from 1-3pm.

About:

The Blooming Room is a 13-week volunteer lead course divided into 2 classes weekly on Thursdays and Fridays from 1-3pm.

The purpose with Blooming Room is to create an atmosphere of inclusion and empower vulnerable women to be and feel part of the community and to create a safe environment to build their life again. This is done by strengthening women's self-confidence by highlighting the skills and competencies they already have and supporting them in acquiring new ones.

Through Blooming Room, the women hereby have the opportunity to prepare for their future by finding and believing their own resources. The project's activities also support women in finding relationships and building healthy communities.

A part of this curriculum is to create a safe space to have conversations on topics important for the women.

The conversation café is an opportunity for women to get a breather from everyday life and from the stamp as 'homeless' and to spend time with other women in pleasant and safe surroundings. Here, women have room to talk about the things that occupy them today - small as well as large. It is also a space where women can share their experiences of homelessness and other issues with each other and therefore can both experience getting good advice or helping another woman along the way. An important element of the conversation café is also to work with mental resilience, which helps to handle adversity, stress and challenges.

The group of women that would be a part of this group range from 40 - 70 years old.

Mission Statement

Blossom is a non profit that through relationship-building work to create better conditions for homeless women, through prevention programs: - Hygiene bags that seek to help homeless women managing their menstruation. - Outreach team to make contact with the women and promote health. - Blooming room, a project where women have the opportunity to prepare for their future by finding and believing their own resources

Description

The idea to launch Blossom Project formed in 2016 as the founder was reading articles about the many hardships that homeless women endure. She was filled with deep compassion as she realized the added difficulties that homeless women face attempting to maintain personal dignity and good sanitary habits, especially during their monthly feminine periods.

Since the summer of 2016, Blossom Project has made its mission to support homeless women, inspired as a response to the sizable number of women facing life on the streets invisible in the shadows of our communities.

"I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do."
