Event Description:
Join staff in removing invasive, non-native plant species from Shelley Lake Park.
Volunteer Impact: Invasive species out-compete the native plants that our animals rely on for food. By removing these problem plants we are giving our native species a chance to grow.
Volunteer Duties: We will be using handsaws, and loppers to cut down invasive plants. We will also be dragging and stacking the removed debris.
Special Information: Please wear sturdy close-toed shoes, and clothing you can get dirty. Since we will be in the brush, we suggest long sleeves and pants. Also, because of the weather be sure to dress in layers. We will supply the tools and work-gloves.
Work Environment: We will be working outside on uneven ground as we cut and remove invasive plants in the wooded areas of the park. There is a restroom on site. We will be working outside please dress accordingly.
Volunteer Requirements: Pre-registration is required. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to volunteer. Everyone who volunteers must sign a release form.
Group Registration Information: Registration as a volunteer is first come, first served. A group leader must email Rachel.VanNoordt@raleighnc.gov to register. All groups will be required to provide a list of names and emails for their volunteers.
