We are not an inpatient unit. We go visit our patients where they live (Homes, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Nursing Homes). As a companion volunteer, you would go visit a patient that has a life-limiting illness. You can talk, walk, read, play music, sing and generally give the gift of presence to a patient in need. We are also always looking for music therapy, pet therapy, and Veteran to Veteran volunteers. Let me know if you have any of these specialties.
There is some travel involved, however, I do try to keep you as close to where you desire to work, if possible. ** COVID-19 has impacted our visiting facilities but we are currently seeing home patients. All have been screened for COVID-19 and are negative. **
To become a member of our volunteer team you must:
Fill out an application.
Pass a background check (paid for by us).
Pass a drug test and TB test (paid for by us).
Take 12 online training modules through Relias
Attend a mandatory orientation
Visits can be once a week, bi-weekly, or at the LEAST 2 times per month for 1 hour each visit. We ask that once you come on board with us, you commit to seeing your patient consistently. Please think this is over carefully before committing to this type of volunteering.
