Do you have a background in music or visual or performing arts? The Joe Balderrama Recreation Center Youth After School Program is looking for volunteer instructors to teach local kids and teens art and musical disciplines. We provide the supplies and space, you provide the instruction!

Shifts are extremely flexible; we work with you to find a schedule that works with our program and your other commitments. Hours must be completed during program hours - 3:10-5:30pm for our elementary program and 6:00-8:30pm for our teen program. Other volunteers have committed to 1 hour a week for a 6 to 10 week instructional session, but you are welcome to conduct more lessons (or less!). One day workshops are also appreciated.

Our teen program is especially interested in learning guitar or ukulele, and our elementary program would like more art instruction (watercolor, clay modeling, etc.) and dance instruction (hip hop, ballet, etc.). but we are open to any talents you may possess.

The Joe Balderrama Recreation Center primarily serves low income youth who may not have the opportunity to participate in "pay for play" recreational opportunities. The elementary and teen after school program address topics that assist children to make positive life decisions, and serve as a deterrent toward future negative choices such as gang associations. By volunteering with our organization, you can bring a source of hope and creativity to the children of our community.
