Special Olympics Tennessee is looking for a volunteer logistical coordinator to lead the logistics at state events, including Basketball (March), Summer Games (May), and Flag Football (September/October). Events are typically held on a consecutive Friday and Saturday. The volunteer logistical coordinator is a key member of the Games Management Team and would be responsible for overseeing the setup and tear down crews; supervising the logistics teams during the event; and working with other members of the GMT to facilitate a positive, competitive experience for all participating athletes, coaches and volunteers.
Job Responsibilities:
- Begin to build and cultivate a Logistics team that can serve as a "Road Crew" - the Road Crew is responsible for setting up, tearing down, and providing other logistical support at Special Olympics Tennessee State Games
- Oversee loading, unloading and distribution of equipment, signage, etc. to various venues
- Ensure that venue setup is accurate
- Supervise Hydration Team volunteers
- Assist with breakdown and reload of equipment at the conclusion of the event
- Support SOTN staff and other GMT members to ensure a successful competition and event
- Be willing to drive/move a cargo van and/or rental truck short distances in and across town
Key Dates for 2020:
- State Basketball - Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14 at Lipscomb University
- State Summer Games - Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16 at Lipscomb University
- State Flag Football - Date TBD (Saturday in late Sept/early Oct) at Franklin Road Academy, Nashville

Special Olympics Tennessee provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Description
Special Olympics began in the early 1960s when Eunice Kennedy Shriver provided day camps for children with intellectual disabilities in her backyard in Maryland. In 1968, the first World Games were held at Soldier Field in Chicago, with athletes from the United States and Canada attending. Special Olympics Tennessee serves 17,000 athletes from across the state. Competition opportunities are available to athletes at both the state and local level. Trainings and competitions for athletes ages 8 and older happen on a continuing basis throughout the year in cities across Tennessee.

- This role requires committing to attend the listed events in a leadership role - approx 7:30am-5:00pm on event days. In the leadup to each event, 5-10 hours per month of work may be utilized to meet with staff, recruit volunteers, etc.
