Help CWS serve the refugees and immigrants by volunteering for our Immigration Legal Services program. Our staff work hard to provide legal and immigration services to our clients. They have served over 1,600 clients in the past year alone.
CWS Immigration Legal Services help clients in Family Reunification, Permanent Residency, and Citizenship cases. As a volunteer you can support our Department of Justice-accredited staff in various administrative projects:
- Creating and maintaining the case files
- Updating the status of a case based on the correspondents from State Department.
- Follow Up with clients after the appointments

*Before you can begin we require all our volunteers to attend a volunteer orientation here at our office (112 S. Duke St. Suite 4B, Durham, NC 27701.)We also require you to submit a clean background check. This can be obtained from your local county courthouse. It costs $25 and takes 5-10 minutes. You can bring the background check to the orientation or bring/send it to the office (address above.)

Mission Statement
The Church World Service Immigration and Refugee Program is committed to advancing the Triangle as a safe and welcoming home for new arrivals. We work to connect our clients with community resources in order to meet their immediate needs, promote long-term self-sufficiency, and take back control of their lives.
Description
Church World Service is one of 10 U.S. voluntary agencies upon which the U.S. Refugee Program depends to welcome refugees to America. CWS affiliate agencies work hand-in-hand with seven participating denominations, local congregational cosponsors, and many other community volunteers to ensure that the newcomers have food, clothing, and other essentials as they help refugees learn English, find their way around town, enroll their children in school, look for work, and quickly become self-sufficient.
