Catholic Social Services is seeking volunteers who love working with children to chaperone a playgroup for young children one day per week. This playgroup is meant to provide on-site childcare for parents who attend the Nurturing Families support group at Catholic Social Services. Nurturing Families focuses on supportive skill-building for parents as a method for child-abuse prevention. Volunteers are needed to watch over these children as they eat a snack, color, draw, play, etc.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Playgroup Chaperone-Arrive reliably for playgroup sessions every Monday from 1 pm-2:30 pm unless otherwise planned. These volunteers will monitor children to ensure they remain safe as they go about coloring, drawing, playing, etc. This role requires someone who enjoys playing with and talking with children, can offer comfort when needed and can resolve minor spats and squabbles. Volunteers will NOT be asked to do any diaper changes or toileting.

Set-Up Volunteer- Along with the responsibilities of a Playgroup Chaperone this volunteer also helps to prepare for the Playgroup by picking up food for the group, setting up the room, and unlocking the doors for the other volunteers. This person would need a reliable vehicle and driver's license and would arrive at 11:45 am before the other volunteers arrive.

Qualifications:

Volunteers must enjoy being around children of all ages and be reasonably reliable. Volunteers should also be able to bend and lift small children. Having a background in early childhood education or teaching is preferred, but not required. Volunteers should also be able to pass a background check and willing to undergo some training pertaining to child safety and agency policy.

Requirements:

  • Must be 21 or older
  • Attend 3 out of 4 Mondays per month

Please include your phone number when you contact us. Email rsvp@csswashtenaw or call (734) 971-9781 ext. 364
