The Southwest Detroit Immigrant and Refugee Center SWIRC is the largest, most inclusive organization serving immigrants and refugees in metropolitan Detroit. As demand for our services continues to grow, we need committed, skilled persons to serve on our Board of Directors. Our Board includes attorneys, community activists, skilled professionals and community members committed to creating a larger Detroit community that welcomes immigrants and refugees and helps them find job, decent housing and permanent legal status. As SWIRC enters its 10th anniversary year, we don't need more consultants! We need hard working persons who can immediately lend their skills so that we may become more effective: 1) providing legal services to a community who lacks funds, language skills and experience in a new county; 2) help us build a well-trained and supervised paid staff and volunteers; connect our clients with much-needed "wrap around" services that include medical and mental health care, tutoring and education opportunities, jobs and housing; 3) expand our fundraising program; and 4) engage in strategic planning as SWIRC enters its second decade of service. If this opportunity sound interesting to you, please contact SWIRC's executive director Kevin J. Piecuch, Esq. These positions are open immediately.

Mission Statement
The Southwest Detroit Immigrant and Refugee Center provides free and low-cost legal services to underserved communities in the Detroit area, with a focus on recent immigrants and refugees.
Description
Despite their growing presence in Detroit, immigrants and refugees here have difficulty obtaining affordable legal services, housing, and assistance in establishing businesses. The Southwest Detroit Immigrant and Refugee Center helps meets these needs . . . one family at a time.
We have three core mission priorities:
1. Provide low cost legal services to immigrants and refugees seeking to make a home in the city of Detroit;
2. Offer low-cost housing to immigrants and refugees who have difficulty finding long-term residences in the city of Detroit; and
3. Assist businesses owned by Detroit residents (from disadvantaged communities) unable to find capital due to their inexperience, need for professional support, and/or immigration status.
