Make a difference in your community today! Our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax preparation for people who make less than $54,000 a year. This valuable program would not be possible without our amazing volunteers! Volunteers help us greet clients, collect information and prepare income tax returns. We have locations throughout Wayne County. This year, we are seeking volunteers for the following roles (free training provided and no experience necessary):
GREETER
* Welcomes clients into the tax site, verifying IDs, and getting clients signed in
INTAKE SPECIALIST
* Provide support to the site by completing the Intake/Interview process with taxpayer
TAX PREPARER
* Assists the Tax Program in preparing quality basic level income tax returns
Becoming a VITA Volunteer offers the opportunity to:
* Learn skills to prepare your own tax return and build your resume
* Network and meet new people
* Give back and feel connected to your community
A background check and training session is required. Additionally, due to high demand of VITA services, we require volunteers to commit to volunteering for at least 24 total hours between January and April.
If you have questions, comments, or concerns please contact Sitara Govender, sgovender@waynemetro.org or 248-210-8261. We look forward to hearing from you!
