- Financial Guide volunteers provide a comprehensive tax site intake experience for taxpayers. This includes screening for tax preparation readiness and eligibility, interpreting and advising client’s credit report, referring services, and encouraging clients to opt-in to tax-time savings options. Financial Guides are placed at a tax site at the discretion of the Coalition Asset Building Program Coordinator.
- Commitment: Volunteers are respectfully requested to volunteer at their selected tax site at least 4 hours per week, or for a total of 30 hours of service throughout the tax season.
- Training: Training consists of Part ONE online tutorial instruction and Part TWO 3-hour class instruction. All volunteers are required to pass the IRS Standards of Conduct certification exam.

The mission of the Boston Tax Help Coalition is to broaden pathways from poverty to financial empowerment by maximizing the impact of the Earned Income Tax Credit and other tax credits through quality, free tax preparation, financial education and economic stability opportunities.
The Boston Tax Help Coalition has 30 free tax sites in the city of Boston, providing free tax preparation and asset building services for low-income residents.
Each tax season, the Coalition recruits, trains and manages over 400 volunteers to operate community tax assistance centers, providing tax preparation and credit building services throughout Boston's neighborhoods. We have opportunities to help as VITA tax preparers, community engagement liaison, Financial Guides, and bi-lingual interpreters.
