Tax Preparers
- Prior tax experience is not necessary. We will train! Tax Preparer volunteers prepare and file taxes face-to-face with eligible taxpayers using IRS TaxWise software. Volunteers are encouraged to serve at any site (or combination of sites) as they wish.
- Commitment: Volunteers are respectfully requested to volunteer at their selected tax site at least 4 hours per week, or for a total of 30 hours of service throughout the tax season.
- Training: NEW volunteers are required to take a TWO-Day virtual training. The classroom training (two full-days training that takes place over a weekend) focuses on software training, tax return practice, and the IRS certification exam. Volunteers must pass the IRS Basic Tax Preparation certification exam in order to volunteer at a tax site.
- In-person and virtual volunteer options available.

The mission of the Boston Tax Help Coalition is to broaden pathways from poverty to financial empowerment by maximizing the impact of the Earned Income Tax Credit and other tax credits through quality, free tax preparation, financial education and economic stability opportunities.
Description
The Boston Tax Help Coalition has 30 free tax sites in the city of Boston, providing free tax preparation and asset building services for low-income residents.
Each tax season, the Coalition recruits, trains and manages over 400 volunteers to operate community tax assistance centers, providing tax preparation and credit building services throughout Boston's neighborhoods. We have opportunities to help as VITA tax preparers, community engagement liaison, Financial Guides, and bi-lingual interpreters.
