Responsibilities: Hosts help visitors in a variety of ways. They share Refuge wildlife, recreation, and regulatory information with visitors. They staff the Refuge Visitor Center, greeting visitors, answering their questions, giving recommendations and directions, and delivering pop-up interpretive programs to interested guests. Hosts will also answer the phone and operate a blu-ray player and media system to play nature videos for visitors. Hosts work a five-day workweek with days off on weekdays. Shifts are 8 hours long, from 8:45 to 5:15, with a half hour for lunch. Visitor Center Hosts are often the only Refuge representatives that visitors interact with, so host hospitality is instrumental in giving Refuge visitors a positive experience.

About Kenai National Wildlife Refuge

Location:

P.O. Box 2139, Soldotna, AK 99669, US

Mission Statement

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will serve as an anchor for biodiversity on the Kenai Peninsula despite global climate change, increasing development, and competing demands for Refuge resources. Native wildlife and their habitats will find a secure place here, where Refuge staff and partners work together, using the best science and technology available, to ensure that biological health is maximized and human impacts are minimized. Visitors will feel welcomed and safe by means of a wide variety of wildlife-dependent recreation opportunities, facilities, and interpretive and educational programs that encourage informed and ethical use of the Refuge’s natural resources. The Refuge will achieve excellence in land, water, and Wilderness stewardship; and--with careful planning, forethought, and human determination--an enduring legacy of abundant plant, fish, and wildlife populations will be ensured for people to enjoy today and into the future for this phenomenal land we call "The Kenai."

Description

Alaska is a land of awe-inspiring beauty and fish and wildlife spectacles, and the Kenai Refuge is a microcosm of all this wonderful state has to offer.

Your opportunities for outdoor adventures here extend year-round and include world-class fishing, hunting, hiking, cross-country skiing, canoeing, and camping. Whether you choose to fish or float the emerald waters of the Kenai River or experience wilderness solitude canoeing in lowland lakes or hiking high into the alpine tundra, you are sure to create life-long and indelible memories. I encourage you to take a few moments to reflect on the spirit of this wild place. It is the spirit of Alaska, it is endless, and it will inspire and enrich you.
