American Red Cross - Cascades Region

logo

In the Cascades Region (Oregon/SW Washington), the Red Cross responds to, on-average, two home fires per day. Disaster Action Teams provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring that those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing. Disaster Action Team Members will gain an understanding of resources available through the Red Cross to victims of small and large scale disasters, as well as the response structure of the Red Cross regionally and nationally. Responders are needed for Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, and Clark counties.

Requirements:

  • Volunteers must have access to a vehicle and a valid license

  • Attend Disaster Action Team Workshop

  • Time commitment varies by County (average 1-2 calls per month)

Disaster Action Team members will be directly supporting local victims of small-scale disasters, primarily home fires. DAT members will provide the household with financial assistance and begin a casework process that will help connect the household with additional community resources to help on their road to recovery. Disaster Action Team members will additionally have opportunities to train to support large scale disasters locally and nationally, if interested.
