Maine-based volunteers only
Are you looking for ways to take direct action to support immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in the Portland community? Want to help learners meet their goals safely by offering online instruction? Apply to become a VIRTUAL English language tutor at LearningWorks today!
Tutors are paired with adult English language learners and spend 1.5 to 2 hours per week over the course of 6+ months working towards the student’s personal English goals: conversation/speaking, writing, reading comprehension, etc.
Currently, lessons can be conducted over FaceTime, WhatsApp, Zoom, Skype, or any virtual learning platform but, we hope that when it is safe to do so again, these lessons can take place in person at any public location convenient for both the student and tutor.
Prior experience as an educator is helpful, but not necessary, as training and ongoing support are provided. The ideal candidate is fluent in English, independent, reliable, creative, and can practice cultural awareness and sensitivity. We have a thorough and selective volunteer intake process-- get started today!
Make a difference in an adult English learner’s life, and help make Portland a more welcoming place. Contact the program at ellp@learningworks.me for more information or visit www.learningworks.me to apply online.
