Under the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) umbrella, students Peer Mentors provide peer-to-peer support as a way of increasing persistence for both mentors and mentees. The primary mentoring happens in study groups: https://tinyurl.com/TCCStudyGroup

Peer Mentors serve to support and encourage TCC student success. Peer Mentors lead mentees through their TCC College Experience and help new students throughout the academic year. Through one-on-one and group meetings (with study group, study strategy, and life balance sessions), Peer Mentors will be a knowledgeable guide for new students, thoughtful facilitators who provides access to people and resources and ultimately role models and advocates.

Research for peer mentoring (Bonin, 2016; Collings, Swanson, & Watkins, 2014; Deshler, Fuller, & Darrah, 2019) supports students by enhancing skills in problem solving, unraveling obstacles, solution gathering, advocacy building, relationship building, conflict resolution, giving and receiving feedback, team building, transitioning to university, passing developmental courses, and overall leadership.

With mentors going through a minimum of two weeks of training, along with ongoing development, the program includes volunteer mentors and paid work study coordinators.
