It is known that incidences of abuse and neglect increase during disasters. You can support the 300 youth in foster care who still need an advocate for their best interests. We are recruiting and training online. New CASA volunteers will have the opportunity to begin mentoring and advocating remotely.

Did you know only 54% of youth in foster care earn a high school diploma? And only 2% earn a bachelor’s degree or higher? Many teens must prepare to leave foster care without ever having a caring presence to help guide them on their journey to adulthood. Change a child's story and make a difference in the lives of youth ages 14-21 as a CASA Volunteer.

Duties:

• Mentor a child or teen twice a month.
• Write a court report advocating for the teen’s best interests.
• Present the recommendations in the court report twice a year at civil court hearings.

Qualifications:

• Interested in working with children and teens.
• Maintain youth’s confidentiality.
• Open to learning about child welfare.

Time Requirements:

CASA volunteers are required to volunteer 10-15 hours per month, which includes meeting with their assigned child or teen twice a month and communicating with the important adults in the child/teen’s life. Also, there is a minimum 1-year commitment to the case.

Training:

• Pre-service training - 30-hour training to learn about trauma-informed volunteering and the impact a CASA volunteer makes on the life of a child or teen.
• Ongoing in-service training - 12 hours per year to learn about relevant topics to youth today (i.e. disability, educational needs, mental health first aid, etc.)
