  • 1 person is interested

Insight Garden Program uses an innovative program rooted in permaculture principles in 17 prisons across the country teaching gardening, "inner gardening," and reentry skills to people who are incarcerated. As a co-facilitator, you would work at the La Porte Juvenile Correctional Facility with young women (ages 13-20) who are incarcerated helping to work in the garden and lead classes related to ecology, gardening, permaculture principles, meditation, and other subjects.

Classes are Monday from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. There is some flexibility about this time frame if you are interested.

Mission Statement

Insight Garden Program facilitates a restorative approach to incarceration through connection to nature. We work using a collaborative, participatory-centered approach with all key stakeholders -- from the people who live and work in prisons to our larger communities. Together, we are part of the solution.

Description

Insight Garden Program works in 17 prisons across the country and facilitates an innovative curriculum combined with vocational gardening and landscaping training so that people in prison can reconnect to self, community, and the natural world. This "inner" and "outer" gardening approach transforms lives, ends ongoing cycles of incarceration, and creates safer communities.
