Dakota County Men's Shed Community Networking Group

ORGANIZATION: Dakota County

General Description

Men’s Sheds are an international movement started in Australia in 1995, sort of like Boy Scouts of America for adults, that is now expanding to the United States in nine states. The idea was named after the backyard space where many men have a workspace and keep their tools. Sheds are a place where men can share skills or advice, learn new skills, and work side by side on community projects such as: building park benches, making toys for children’s hospitals, volunteering at food drives, and more.

The goal of the program is to give men of all ages a place to go, something meaningful to do, and friends to talk with. Thompson Park Activity Center in West St. Paul is putting together a Men’s Shed and is starting to plan what it may look like based on men’s interests and skills.
