Education volunteers assist with elementary field trips at Columbia Springs. Each year we see over 6,000 youth during our field trip programs that cover ecology, macro-invertebrates, water quality, and more. For many children, this is one of their first outdoor learning experiences and it is important to have many chaperons around to facilitate a unique and wonderful experience. Education Volunteers must be able to pass a background check, be available during the school day time hours, and should enjoy spending time with children and helping them learn about the environment. Must be able to safely navigate the nature center trails/grounds.
Must be available for a minimum of two 4.5-5 hour shifts per month Tuesday-Friday during the school year. Plus attend at least one outreach event per year. Must be available during field trip hours: 8:30-3:00...might vary depending on field trip schedule, but basically during the school day.
Orientation and training- Meeting with volunteer managers, education coordinator and shadowing. Must like kids. Will shadow a field trip, pass background check, attend two annual skill-building and season launch sessions (February or October).
Minimum Age: 18
Benefits: Training/lifelong experience; professional development; admission to workshops; program apparel including tee shift and name tag; recognition events; meeting new people and enjoying Columbia Springs!
