What’s Involved:
The role of House Staff a key volunteer position in the Transformational Recovery Program that
allows the women to be fully supported in their journey home to their authentic selves.
We call the role of House Staff the Hestia role, after the goddess Hestia, the:
Tender of the hearth and the home.
Keeper of the flame of welcome.
Holder of right order and sacred container.
Priestess of ritual.

Holding the role of Hestia is a sacred trust to people, home and community. Hestia is fierce love in all of its forms and, a truth, stability and consistency that our community can depend on. She is motherly and mentoring, holding a strong container. She is the gatherer of the food, provides loving support, creates warmth, and safety and models healthy family dynamics and values.

Outcomes of Service:
The Hestia lives on-site in the Transformational Recovery House in Midtown, Sacramento.
She creates and maintains daily and weekly housing structures including supporting the Apprentices with their chores, cleaning, meals, activities, food shopping, maintenance and upkeep
With fierce love, the Hestia holds true the rules and regulations of the house. This includes in the moment interventions with the women in the program, reaching out to and reporting conflicts and concerns to the Program and Clinical Directors, and maintaining the team communication log.
Hestia is encouraged to attend monthly case review meetings with the extended Program team (called the Broomstick Circle) and to meet with the Directors for a weekly check in.
She facilitates and documents weekly house meetings on Sunday evenings and daily opening and closing circles.
Length of Expected Term We ask that the Hestia commits to a minimum of 1 year Time Commitment This is a full time immersion (residential) volunteer opportunity with most hours occurring primarily in the afternoon/evening and weekend. This volunteer position can be flexible and held while having a job during daytime working hours.
Required Qualifications Skills needed:
Herstory of recovery and / or personal healing
The capacity to hold faith and trust in the impossible becoming possible.
Ability to have and facilitate uncomfortable conversations.
Ability to work with diverse populations
Warm and welcoming presence to community members, including volunteers, donors, partners, courting (potential) apprentices.
A balance between being able to uphold structure (personal, organizational and energetic boundaries) and being adaptable.
Resourceful and organized. Prefered Qualifications
Desired Skills or Qualifications: Background/training in counseling; training in any healing modalities
Support Provided Clinical and facilitator training within the Shakti Rising Model, mentoring by co-directors of the Recovery Program as well as other staff and Shakti Rising community. Training Needed: 15 hours Transformation through Service training, 3 hour Shakti Rising clinical training, 1 month house staff shadowing, 20 hour house staff training Volunteer Benefits Volunteer Benefits: As well as the duties of the role, we hold that to be a Hestia is a deep dive into your personal Soul’s journey, including comprehensive training in Shakti Rising’s model of transformational recovery and feminine leadership. Many Hestia find that while nominally in a service role, the personal transformation that occurs is deep and life enriching.
