GOAL: The Artspace Board is responsible for ensuring effective and fiscally sound programs and operations by providing leadership, advice, and direction to the staff and volunteers of Artspace.

REQUIREMENTS OF BOARD MEMBERS:

Board members will have a direct, personal knowledge of and passionate commitment to Artspace’s vision, values, and programs and will actively participate in Artspace programs and events and all appropriate meetings. Board members are required to:

  • Attend Board meetings and participate in proceedings.
  • Maintain confidentiality of Board discussions.
  • Prepare for each board meeting by reading materials distributed prior to the meeting.
  • Notify the President & CEO or Chair when unable to attend a regularly scheduled meeting.
  • Attend First Friday Gallery Walks, fundraisers, and other special events.

Board members will serve as an activist for Artspace in the community, and provide access to his/her various networks of influence and activity; and will seek access into new arenas of influence and support on behalf of Artspace.

  • Share resources and talents with Artspace including expertise, contacts for financial support and contacts for in-kind contributions.

Board members are expected to make a personal contribution to Artspace’s annual operating fund (Artspace Inspiration Fund) and to participate in fundraising activities for the organization by making fundraising asks.

  • Each board member will make a leadership contribution to Artspace’s annual operating campaign based appropriately on that individual board member’s ability. Board members must give at a personally meaningful level. Board members are asked to make an annual personal contribution at the $1,000 or higher.
  • Each board member will participate in Artspace’s overall operating fundraising and development program, helping especially in areas of developing new relationships and cultivation activities. Board members are asked to secure a minimum of $5,000 in contributions annually for Artspace. This annual goal can be achieved through a personal gift or through a personal gift and personal fundraising efforts.
    • Board members are expected to solicit financial contributions of others, including employers and friends, and participate in the fundraising and public affairs efforts of the Board.
    • Each board member is expected to help recruit new Artspace members or donors annually.
    • Board members may fulfill the $5,000 fundraising goal by securing sponsorships either personally and/or through his/her employer.
    • Board members may also support the organization through participation in and promotion of several earned revenue streams such as: art classes and workshops, facility rentals, team building workshops, etc.

Board members will be aware of and seek out individuals from the community who need to connect with the work of Artspace as new audience members and in order to expand the circle of support and reach within the larger community.

Board members will undertake projects, participate in task forces/committees as requested or assigned by the board leadership, and will bring any special expertise to bear as needed and requested. Board members are expected to serve on at least one board committee.

TERM: Three years beginning July 1, eligible for two consecutive three-year terms.
