ORGANIZATION: Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma

Cooking Matters is a series of hands-on classes taught by volunteer nutritionists and chefs. The lessons are once a week for 6 weeks, and 2 hours each. The classes are intended to teach participants nutrition information, healthy food preparation, and shopping on a limited budget. The chef and nutritionist work together to teach the lesson and prepare a meal from the Cooking Matters curricula in class for everyone to share. The participants then receive a bag of groceries to recreate the meal at home. The classes are led and managed by volunteers, the roles being: chef, nutritionist, grocery shopper and classroom manager. Cooking Matters is a great way to empower families to eat healthier, shop smarter, and to learn how to make a few meals they might not have tried on their own. If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please contact Joy Lindner at the food bank. Volunteering with Cooking Matters is a great way to gain experience and interact with the community!
