Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin, Inc. (CAC) strives to make fresh local food available to everyone. The FoodShare Program at the Dane County Farmers Market ensures that families and individuals are able to buy Farmers Market products with their Foodshare (Quest) cards, by conducting Electronic Benefit Transfers (EBT) at our stand at the market.
EBT services are available at the Dane County Farmers' Market on Wednesdays from mid-April through early November, and on Saturdays year-round; at the Capitol Square Market, the Holiday Market, and the Late Winter Market. Volunteers are needed each Saturday.
Our program needs dedicated people with fresh energy, and an interest in learning more about Food accessibility. This is an amazing volunteer opportunity that helps people purchase locally farmed and produced food directly from the farmer; aiding in nutrition, community development, and local and sustainable food production. Not only do you get to help others eat well, you also get to be right in the middle of all the wonderful action that is the Dane County Farmers’ Market!

Booth shifts involve sitting and do not demand much physically. It is great if you are a social person, as you will be interacting with customers who come to the booth for FoodShare transactions, questions about the market, etc. This is a great opportunity for people watching as well as learning more about the market!
During collections, collections assistant volunteers work with the EBT Coordinator to collect and count spent FoodShare Market Dollars from the vendors at the market, and issue receipts for reimbursement. The collections shift for the outdoor season runs from 9am-1pm, and involves lots of standing and walking, so it is more of a physical position. The collections shift is a great way to get a look at the "behind the scenes" of market operation and get to know some of the wonderful vendors at the market!

RESTRICTIONS: These positions require some training. For that reason, we cannot accept one-time only volunteers. There are no requirements for how frequently you volunteer, but we want you to come back and use what you've learned! if you are interested in one-time volunteer opportunities with the CAC, please visit our Agency page to see what other volunteer opportunities we have.
Once a volunteer is trained, they are able to sign up for shifts according to whatever fits their schedule. There is no maximum or minimum time commitment (outside of set shift times) and we encourage volunteers to sign up as often as they would like!
