Objective:

Help to alleviate poverty and keep food out of landfills by collecting surplus food products from grocery stores, bakeries, delis, canteens, and caterers - and delivering these donations to specified meal sites, food pantries, neighborhood centers, homeless shelters, and senior centers.

CAC will try to match your route with geographical locations of your preference and daytime availability.

Duties:

- Driving to various assigned food outlets weekly, in your own vehicle and on a specific day or days, to retrieve food donations and deliver food to specified sites.

- Weigh (or estimate weight of) weekly food donations from each donor and track volunteer hours.

- Submit a monthly log to the Gleaners Coordinator with weights of donations and hours volunteered.

Qualifications:

- Must have a valid driver’s license, insured vehicle, and the ability to lift 20-40 pounds.

- This is a long-term volunteer position that must be done on a weekly basis.

- Volunteer must agree to inform Gleaners Coordinator, at least 24 hours in advance, if unable to perform a pickup.

- Must be dependable and be able to work independently.

Time Commitment:

- This is a regular, weekly commitment (substitutes can be supplied for illness and vacations).

- 1 - 2 hours every week, depending on the route (number of pick ups and distances between donating agencies and delivery sites vary).
