Seeking Volunteers to Tutor
Sinkinson Dyslexia Foundation is seeking volunteer tutors to teach children and adults with dyslexia how to read. Some college credit is required but no prior teaching experience is needed. Following the review of an application, approved tutors participate in a group or one-on-one training to learn about dyslexia and the program that SDF uses. Additional individualized training is conducted with the volunteer to better prepare them to work with their matched student. Additional training and guidance are provided to the tutor throughout the student’s time at SDF.
Our tutors are asked to commit to one child, however volunteers may tutor more than one, on a regular basis, for at least one hour a week. Tutoring will continue as long as the student requires instruction, averaging 60 hours total but not to exceed 100 hours. At the time that a student graduates from SDF many of our tutors elect to work with a new student.
