ORGANIZATION: AMERICAN YOUTH POLICY FORUM

  • 10 people are interested

In order to communicate effectively with policymakers and practitioners, we would like to get advice and guidance from a volunteer who has marketing and communications expertise. Our staff expertise is in policy and practice, but we realize that it is important for us to tell stories more effectively and creatively to reach more people. We would like assistance helping us develop a marketing plan for our services and materials. For example, we would like to design and develop materials to communicate our policy priorities and youth stories more effectively with greater visual appeal. Also, we would like advice and assistance in thinking about the best ways to communicate with our varied audience, which includes national, state, and local level policymakers, influencers, and practitioners. We have a great deal of flexibility for this opportunity and would be happy to have a volunteer work with us a couple of hours several times a week. While we would like to have this person come to our office to get to know us, some of the work could be done remotely. There is no time limit for this opportunity.

Mission Statement

AYPF’s mission is to educate, engage, and inform policymakers and practitioners about education, youth, and workforce policies and programs to improve the lives and outcomes of traditionally underserved youth. We carry out this mission by providing research-based information and resources, first-hand learning experiences, convenings, and peer-to-peer networking exchanges to policymakers and youth-serving leaders at the national, state, and local levels. Our goal is to build the knowledge of policymakers and practitioners so they can make better decisions to improve outcomes for underserved youth. We focus primarily on youth who are low-income, systems-involved, disabled, or first in their family to go to college and believe in more equitable outcomes for these young people.

Description

AYPF is a 26-year old nonprofit located in Washington, DC near Dupont Circle with a staff of about 10. We organize learning opportunities for busy policymakers and practitioners, such a webinars, forums on Capitol Hill, study tours, discussion groups, and peer learning exchanges, as well as write reports, infographics, and provide social media. We have strands of work that focus on college and career readiness and success, especially for youth involved in foster care and/or the juvenile justice system, improving learning in high schools, increasing equity, and using research to inform policy and practice. We have informed policy at national, state, and local levels, as well as providing opportunities for young people to share their stories.
