The Refugee Youth Mentorship Program (RYMP) purpose is to foster a sense of self, establish a deeper connection to the Tucson community, and support youth on their quest to become capable, independent and well-rounded adults.
This program matches mentors with refugees 15-24 years old within their first 5 years of resettlement. Together you work towards the mentee's goals, related to vocational advancement, educational success, or community participation.
Mentorship enriches the lives of both the mentee and mentor. We offer 1-on-1 and small group mentorship models. To ensure that the program requirements are being upheld below are the commitments that the mentor must agree to before being enrolled in the program and matched with a mentee.
Attend an on-site mentor training and program kickoff event (where I will be matched with my mentee).
- I agree to obtain a fingerprint clearance card .
- I agree to work with my mentee to set a SMART goal that he/she can achieve in 4 months.
- I agree to meet with my mentee for 4-5 hours a month, for a minimum of 4 months.
RYMP staff & Lutheran Social Services of the South West understand the importance of your time so do our best to make you feel a part of the family. We do this by expressing our gratitude, checking in monthly on the relationship, offer professional development opportunities, free entry to Tucson events, and are happy to write letters of recommendation. Along with hosting monthly mentor appreciation events. Create your own schedule that works for you and your mentee.
Invest in your community. Change a life. Become a mentor today!
