Position Overview:

Spark in Los Angeles seeks an energetic intern to join a dynamic team in a fast-paced professional environment. The Los Angeles Program Support Intern will have the opportunity to work directly with students and mentors from various backgrounds. In return for your time, we offer:

Background:

Spark is a Career Exploration and Self-Discovery Program that gives middle school students opportunities to understand, experience and pursue what’s possible for their future. We are leading The Possibility Movement by bringing together diverse communities of families, schools and companies who care, share, teach and inspire. Our Spark Lab, Mentorship and High School Pathways programs use workplace experiences, mentoring and guided support to help students explore careers, build skills and find the right path to a successful future.


Responsibilities:

The Program Support Intern will assist in directly managing program at John Adams Middle School in South Los Angeles. Responsibilities vary based on individual qualifications and experience. They may include, but are not limited to -

  • Administrative and Logistical Support for Program Operations: supervising program quality for a cohort of 50 7 th grade students, traveling with students to and from workplace-based mentorships, family outreach and engagement, data collection and entry, fortifying and embedding Spark's presence at the school site (building culture)

This position will report directly to the Program Director. Additional networking, training, and portfolio-building opportunities are available!

Required Qualifications:

  • Be enrolled in a degree seeking program (undergraduate or recent graduate students preferred)
  • Interest in working in the educational and/or nonprofit industry (experience a plus)
  • Hard-working, accountable, and able to work autonomously
  • Strong communication skills with youth and adults
  • Proficient in online research and in G Suite
  • Reliable form of transportation

Desired Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Los Angeles Unified School District
  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback
  • Demonstrated skills in preparing, organizing and delivering detailed work
  • Proficiency in Spanish

Time Commitment:
  • Time is negotiable based on applicant's schedule. However -
    • We are requesting a commitment of 10 hours per week for at least 8 weeks
    • Intern will be required to be at school site Tuesdays from 12:00-6:00p beginning February 25 through April 28 (8 Tuesdays total)
    • Remaining time is flexible, but Wednesdays and Fridays are preferred

Compensation:
  • This is an unpaid internship
  • Non-monetary compensation -
    • The opportunity to be an integral member of an energetic, innovative, and hard-working team within an organization making an impact in middle-school education
    • Students are eligible to receive credits toward an academic program or volunteer/internship requirement, provided that this internship qualifies under their program's guidelines
  • A $350 thank you stipend will be granted upon completion
